Yesterday, 71 WT Chipman middle schoolers and 8 adults hit the streets of Harrington to serve the community as part of National Junior Honor Society (NJHS) Day of Service. The students washed fire trucks and ambulances at HFD, washed police cars at HPD, spruced up City Hall, planted flowers and beautified Memorial Park, shoveled mulch at Lake Forest South Elementary playground, encouraged and congratulated the Kindergarten graduates.
NJHS students also picked up trash, planted new trees to replace torn down trees, paid respect to the late Mrs. Miller by re-mulching and planting flowers by her Memorial tree. They wrote encouraging notes with sidewalk chalk to teachers, cleaned up the schoolβs front flower bed, and did lots of work on the schoolβs courtyard. It was a busy day, and yet each student rose to the occasion and I never heard a single complaint! NJHS Co-Sponsor, Mrs. Megan Ellwanger said βI challenged my students to stand by the Service pillar of NJHS and to serve others with a good spirit!β. Thank you and congratulations to these motivated Spartans!
